Greybeard, USA, I Hate Green Beans
I remember a frozen food product marketed to help Parents of picky eaters eat vegetables...They were called I Hate Green Beans, Corn, Beets and Peas. They were french fry type food I think made from those vegetables.
Does anyone else remember these or am I the only one
I totally remember my mom buying these for my picky brothers. They actually tasted pretty good. I have also never been able to find anyone else who remembers them. I am now the mom of a picky eater and wish they still existed. I can not even find a mention of them anywhere or what company made them. Can anyone help????
ReplyDeleteI hated those too! I thought they also had, I Hate Carrots, and I Hate Peas.
ReplyDeleteI remember too, They wee advertised as french fries with the nutritional value of hated veggies. I wanted mom to buy them but she didn't. I remember from the commercial there was I hate peas, I hate carrots and I hate corn. As I kid I loved corn kinda like carrots and hated peas, except for the dried kind used for soup - the whole, not split- go figure.
ReplyDeleteany how i remember the theme song from 30+ years ago:
"I hate saying my ABC's , I hate washing my elbows and my knees, I hate saying thank you and please, but most of all I hate peas!"
At the end of the commercial a little kid said "But I still hate broccoli!"

Even more scary, I think I can actually CORRECT the lyrics that you have!! It actually went "I hate saying my ABCs, I hate washing my elbows and my knees, I hate saying thank you and please, but MORE THAN ANYTHING, I hate peas!"
ReplyDeleteMy mom bought us the peas and the carrot ones - they were HORRIBLE!! Even dipping them in my at-the-time-favorite - ketchup - didn't help...
I remember them, too. According to CNN.COM/Food Failures, They were made by American Kitchen Foods,Inc in the '70's. We tried the "I Hate Carrots" even though I really ate my veggies as a kid. I was just curious as to how they tasted. I seem to remember they weren't that bad. I even remembered the commercial with the kid saying,"I still hate brocolli." to which the voice-over guy says," We're working on it."
ReplyDeleteI remember them. I found this forum by googling the term , looking for info. They were one of the very few convenience type foods that my parents would buy, although I don't remember them being around for very long. I liked them. But then I liked pretty much any of the things the 'rents wouldn't buy (sugary cereals, instant mashed potatos,etc...)
ReplyDeleteMy voice was in the commercial when I was about 5 or 6. I was sick during the filming day, so they did a lip sink thing. Hilarious!

I totally remember them, and this was a trip down memory lane!
ReplyDeleteMY MOTHER USED TO FORCE FEED ME THAT DISGUSTING (at the time) CRAP. SHE AND THE CREATERS JUST DIDN'T GET IT. A BEET IS A BEET REGARDLESS OF WHAT SHAPE IT IS!
ReplyDeleteThe entire song went:
ReplyDeleteI hate Arithmetic and ABC's
I hate washing my Elbows and my Knees
I hate saying Thank You and Please
But More than Anyhting
I HATE PEAS!
I was just talking about that commercial with my brother and we were trying to remember whatit was advertising. Thanks!
That is so funny, I was just eating a french fry that brought back memories of those fries. I asked my wife if she heard of them and she thought I was crazy. I remember them having crispy ridges that ran down the length of the fry.I don't remember really disliking the peas.
ReplyDeleteI still want them bad. I ate all the varieties in 1972. Later years, some restaurant served fries that looked and tasted like these. They have a special name for these fries that have like a slit down the middle like a french bread.
